The game's recent release date trailer was actually too gory to show off during Gamescom Opening Night Live, with Dambuster Studios instead posting the trailer to YouTube after the event. However, does the sci-fi project's level of gore surpass Dead Island 2? Dead Island 2 Renders Horrific Gore In A Lighthearted Styleįollowing in the first game's bloody footsteps, Dead Island 2 pays homage to zombie media through the use of intense gore. Melee and shooter combat in The Callisto Protocol is clearly based on Dead Space, but the upcoming horror title may achieve entirely new levels of horrific mutilation. Playing as prisoner Jacob Lee, players must fight back undead alien creatures by dismembering them with an arsenal of high-tech weapons. Staying true to the original Dead Space's focus on atmosphere and sci-fi terror, the game will take place in 2320 within the Black Iron prison colony located on Jupiter's moon Callisto. Video game designer Glen Schofield served as the executive producer of 2008's Dead Space, and the developer will now direct The Callisto Protocol with Striking Distance Studios. While Dead Island 2 has been a long time coming, The Callisto Protocol will be the spiritual successor to a long-abandoned sci-fi horror franchise.
